Sitka, Alaska is a small town with a lot of passionate people – I am one of them, finding an outlet for my deep thoughts other than by writing letters to the school board – and talking to my kids (we know, mom, you told us already).
Rebecca Poulson is an artist in Sitka, publisher of The Outer Coast calendar of art and poetry. She is currently exploring archives and conducting oral history interviews about the history of Sheldon Jackson School and College – which turns out to be very different from what we assume – and is working on a book about it. Rebecca is active in historic preservation, leading work on the WWII Japonski Island Boathouse and the Sheldon Jackson School National Historic Landmark; teaches art to young people; and jars fish and freezes berries for her family. She is on the board of the Alaska Historical Society, and in 2016 was appointed to the Alaska Historical Commission. She has also written, directed, and created sets for various theatrical productions.
Do you happen to have a picture of the old SJ logo with the seal. I can’t seem to find one anywhere. I’m a 2007 alumni and I’d like to use it in an art project. Thank you!
Have some rough ones I will email to you,
